Jackapoo Pup with her Doughnut

“Jackapoo Pup with her Doughnut” [9th April 2024] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, sketch on A4 mixed media paper, 5970 x 4788 pixels in cropped image for publishing.

My sketch “Jackapoo Pup with her Doughnut” is from a family photograph by my cousin of her adorable pup, now an energetic young dog. The prior week of making this artwork I saw this family dog happily in the garden with her doughnut.

The first draft took me 23 minutes 7 seconds and quite lovely already after the first draft. The second draft tidied at 6 minutes 16 seconds. Then a final draft of 8 minutes 8 seconds, an afterthought with a few finer details. 37 minutes 34 seconds in all.

Whilst I haven’t posted the original photograph it really is a very good likeness. The sketching is definitely my own style.

I made three fun digital versions of which ‘Silvered’ shown below is my favourite of those:

“Jackapoo Pup with her Doughnut – Silvered” [9th April 2024] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, 100% Digital Artwork, 5970 x 4788 pixels.

Along with the original sketch I feel “Jackapoo Pup with her Doughnut – Silvered” is a strong piece of its own merit. I can envisage this artwork pressed onto metal such as aluminium, copper or even silver.

The process would likely include garlic juice and oil paint. Finishing the piece with a gold frame.

I love both pieces here and hope you do too.

M Gold Eight Original + New Variant

“M Gold Eight – Original” [19th March 2024] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, Pop Art acrylic painting on A3 300g mixed media paper, 3000 x 4318 pixels.

Well there you go “M Gold Eight – Original” is the actual acrylic painting originating all the Variations digital works I made from this.

It features real 24k gold leaf in two fashioned squares. The eight is not a planned number reference. It is purely chance through my amalgamating the two gold squares. It was made in portrait over landscape from the beginning.

Yellowish painted ‘track‘ lines were added in whimsical focus. ‘Must make it beautiful.. must make it nice’ went my robot thoughts, possibly, haha. I literally went around the eight track with the brush multiple times in my own tranquil art world.

Lots of fun.

I was like, ‘everyone is going to think this is an 8!’ So I titled it with an eight to go along with perceived perception. Is that even a thing perceived perception?

The M at the top completed the piece. One to fill canvas space. Two since I believed it would look awesome, particularly including my own version of Basquiat famed iconography. Which as an artist I cannot write enough regarding my admiration for their secular achievements and natural artistic abilities.

I let light onto the canvas for this photography shot (above).

Today, following my up-to-date photography of the piece I noticed a Frankenstein-like head in the lower gold ‘square’. A humanoid figure to its right can also be imagined. Pure chance I promise. Especially as I only noticed these today lol.

The shapes only occurred through the process of varnishing. A quick indoor photograph (unpublished) on the 18th March shows the two gold leaves near intact upon the canvas.

I put so much effort into professionally cleaning this piece of loose brush bristles from my heavy varnishing. Awake through the hours so I was. Early up working at not much past 0430hrs cleaning into 0705hrs having worked on the piece after midnight (19th March) prior with the varnishing itself!

Necessary since the varnish would dry solid.

Sacre bleu..

.. then joyful after meticulous canvas brush bristle cleaning and daytime working to add the black and green around the ‘eight’ for strong visual definition.

The earlier opaque light paint (to the black and green) surrounding the ‘eight’ was primarily palette knife work by the way. Calming the overall Pop Art piece to how I envisaged it.

Stylistic.

“M Gold Eight – Monochrome” [11th April 2024] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, Digital Pop Art, 3000 x 4318 pixels.

“M Gold Eight – Monochrome” now makes for the seventh Digital Variant.

Namely (1) “M Gold Eight – Collage of Four (click to see the other Variants), (2) “M Gold Eight – Blue/Red”, (3) “M Gold Eight – Goldish-Brownish/Cyan”, (4) “M Gold Eight – Black/White Sketched”, (5) “M Gold Eight – Green/Magenta”, (6) “M Gold Eight – Burgundy/Bright Green” and this latest version here (7) “M Gold Eight – Monochrome”.

I know, I know, they art all freakeh! Probably love all these as much as any of my other Painted or Digital works.

Am I layering movie themes into the wordology of this article? Yes.

Hope you enjoy these works too.

Rothko x Basquiat Gold/Cerulean Blue

“Rothko x Basquiat Gold/Cerulean Blue” [22nd March 2024] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, acrylic & 24k Gold Leaf Abstract fine art painting on A3 300g mixed media paper, 4967 x 7083 pixels.

“Rothko x Basquiat Gold/Cerulean Blue” is made within 1 hour 45 minutes including Gold Leaf installation to canvas, matte finish varnish (partially to cover central canvas area for textural effect), intricate palette knife and fan brush working, paper card spreading the varnish carefully to create disrupted gold effect, make a gold seal, produce opaque and transparent overlay.

For my previous work “M Gold Eight” (also 24k Gold Leaf) I used 17 brushes (and one palette knife) due to innumerable changes I made throughout drafts. Original as yet unpublished btw.

With “Rothko x Basquiat Gold/Cerulean Blue” I used one palette knife (my favourite one from decade past oils) and one fan brush! A piece perfected from start to finish, joyful. “M Gold Eight” presented technical challenges until I was thoroughly pleased with the result.

I began “Rothko x Basquiat Gold/Cerulean Blue” entirely as a Rothko inspired piece. Whereas the canvas turned into a sort of 50/50 inspiration between Rothko and Basquiat, hence the title.

I could have made the decision to include a robot face into this one. I just didn’t feel this would be true to its Rothko intended beginning. Anyway, since Warhol and Basquiat collaborated I felt why not Rothko and Basquiat!

Yellow ochre outer rectangle. Gold rectangle. Cerulean Blue rectangular window at centre. Four 24k gold leaf squares fanned gently with paper card over matte varnish. 100% pure chance gold leaf imagery.

All four additional unique and individual digital works (shown below) took within 27 minutes to complete – Red, Monochrome, Blue and Pastel Furnace.

Love!

Hopefully you do feel I have captured the Rothko and Basquiat style through this original acrylic canvas. Please happily click on the individual images for further interest. Enjoy.

digital Variations – “M Gold Eight” Collage of Four

“M Gold Eight – Collage of Four” [20th March 2024] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, Digital Artwork, 2968 x 4274 pixels image.

Firstly, do you have something to write with in readiness to read this article?

Super.

A lovely Warhol inspired Collage piece in “M Gold Eight – Collage of Four”. The ‘M’ at the top of each design is my idea to emulate the famed Basquiat crown emblem.

At the time of writing this blog article I am listening to Eric Carmen’s “Boats Against the Current”. An album and musical talent I have genuinely loved since the 1980‘s.

My youth.

Please do kindly click on the individual images on this page for a closer look at the artistic intricacies of these digital works. [Please note this online Collage is not shown in high-resolution].

“M Gold Eight – Black/White Sketched” [20th March 2024] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, Digital Artwork, 4953 x 7083 pixels (2000 x 2860 for WordPress).

“M Gold Eight – Black/White Sketched”archaeological digs in space with stars (spoken the way Björk speaks). Poetical.

“M Gold Eight – Green/Magenta” [20th March 2024] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, Digital Artwork, 4953 x 7064 pixels image (2000 x 2852 for WordPress).

“M Gold Eight – Green/Magenta”the centre of attention and passion.

“M Gold Eight – Burgundy/Bright Green” [20th March 2024] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, Digital Artwork, 4953 x 7064 pixels image (2000 x 2852 for WordPress).

“M Gold Eight – Burgundy/Bright Green” is fizzy soda pop and vegetables, to me.

Whilst this did not feature in the Collage I view this equally to the complimentary digital Variations works above.

Abstracted Paints #1 and DIGITAL

“Abstracted Paints #1” [11th February 2024] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, gouache abstract painting on A3 250g mixed media paper, 3000 x 2162 pixels image.

Whilst making ‘Bluish Grey Sky with Tea’ I used a whole A3 canvas to make paint checks to test brush textures or remove excess paint. I looked at these random paint strokes as an artistic opportunity.

“Abstracted Paints #1” (image shown above) and “Abstracted Paints #1 DIGITAL” (shown below) are two works I made using those paint marks upon that physical A3 canvas. I succinctly added paint to turn the canvas into an abstract artwork. As I write it’s still wet so I will sign the canvas in due time.

It was a quickly produced piece. A mix between Kandinsky and Pollock, in my opinion. Unintended at the time of producing. If anyone draws similar comparison in style then I would most definitely be delighted.

Here is the digital version in monochrome:

“Abstracted Paints #1 DIGITAL” [11th February 2024] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, digitally created from my original gouache abstract painting, image is 3000 x 2162 pixels.

I invite you to click on the images for “Abstracted Paints #1 & DIGITAL” to get a sense of how beautifully intricate the pieces are. As a high quality large-scale giclee print these would look phenomenal!

I balanced colours very carefully to bring the most out from the digitally produced monochrome tones in the latter artwork whilst utilising professional photographic editing software.

Love these artworks, hope you enjoy ;]

time reversal – second edition

”time reversal – second edition [Collage]“ [digital Art, 1st December 2023] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, digital artwork, 1920 x 1080 pixels.

My latest ‘time reversal’ [second editions] artworks encompass complex ideas.

Namely through time, watchmaking, spirituality, sentience, ancient writings, empires, self analysis, geology, locality, calculation (positive/negative), conservation, economics, mechanotidal effects (habitat destruction), a true green revolution (non-finite resources), art itself, personalism, past art masters, popular movies and even famed writers.

I feature my “M Art Life” emblem in similar style to recent works.

Here is “Orange” a SolarScape work, two of the Collage pieces seen immediately above:

”time reversal – second edition [Orange]“ [digital Art, 1st December 2023] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, digital artwork, 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Next we have “Monochrome” where my quotation takes on a mostly 3D quality (by selective chance):

”time reversal – second edition [Monochrome]“ [digital Art, 1st December 2023] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, digital artwork, 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Then the original in Green:

”time reversal – second edition [Green]“ [digital Art, 1st December 2023] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, digital artwork, 1920 x 1080 pixels.

I wanted my second editions of “time reversal” to be beautiful.

Hopefully you feel I have achieved this in these works.

convenient tasty snacks

”convenient tasty snacks – Original in Yellow“ [digital Art, 27th November 2023] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, digital artwork, 1920 x 1080 pixels.

As any Pop Art aficionado will know with my recent works since September 2023 I am drawing up my inner Basquiat inspiration.

These two blog articles wrote in July 2015 by me will show you my love for Jean-Michel’s works. You can always read these articles after this blog post. Articles shown in chronological order:

then:

”convenient tasty snacks – Original in Yellow“ shown above formed from one word.. ‘convenient’.

Convenient like the Earth growing an adundance of tasty foods we love to combine in sophisticated culinary ways to produce incredible meals and drinks.

I wanted to celebrate this in an artwork, Basquiat style.

Prior to making the artwork <past the midnight hour> I happily enjoyed a documentary on the engineering feat of the ‘South-to-North Water Diversion Project in China’.

For instance, Beijing has a population of twenty one million people! Just think about how much food and water is needed. The Earth is truly amazing.

Good engineering works by humans is also amazing.

”convenient tasty snacks – Solarscape“ [digital Art, 27th November 2023] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, digital artwork, 1920 x 1080 pixels.

I did two further editions of my artwork, immediately above is ”convenient tasty snacks – Solarscape“. My solarscape versions always become vibrant, cool works on the digital canvas. To be honest I would love to see these in physical form, silkscreen prints would be wonderful.

Lastly I did a Monochrome version for a contrast between the colour editions, ”convenient tasty snacks – Monochrome“ is shown immediately below:

”convenient tasty snacks – Monochrome“ [digital Art, 27th November 2023] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, digital artwork, 1920 x 1080 pixels.

With ”convenient tasty snacks – Monochrome“ it was quite difficult to balance the tones, whilst retaining the verbal messaging.

Some of the messaging I wish to explain is the inclusion of Roman numerals. This is purely a Picasso influence-idea in the work! I feel subconsciously I included the popular laughter word ‘KEKW’ to highlight the playfulness of my imagery.

Subsidy street is a reference to engineering in terms of safety for cities and also a connection to the modern phenomena of world economies spiralling into further debt.

The light seemingly blazing through the canvas in Monochrome is a direct simile to my much earlier work in 2012, shown here in a blog article of 2019:

This is my past paint artwork in burnt umber on paper I am referring to:

‘Matt’ [Playful Light Signature, June 2012], Oil on paper.

I shone a light through the paper then took the photograph.

Hope you are enjoying my artworks and the layers of ideas.

“Heated Planet – Abstract” [digital Abstract, 25th August 2023] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, 100% digital artwork, 1920 x 1080 pixels.

I am hoping I have achieved an emotion founded artwork in the abstract 1950’s style with this piece. As the viewer you decide if this visual has emotive feeling.

Professional, highly technical artmaking is involved in the production of this complex digital abstract piece.

Cellular Circles Candy #1

“Cellular Circles Candy #1 – Original in Pink, Blue & Yellow” [digital Pop Art, 24th August 2023] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, 100% digital artwork, 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Direct personal quote: “Goodness.. these new works 😍 i feel like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where i am the artist fine tuning art candy. definitely Hirst inspired with a Rothko flavour too.

Here is the Collage version:

“Cellular Circles Candy #1 – Nine Grid Collage” [digital Pop Art, 24th August 2023] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, 100% digital artwork, 3264 x 3264 pixels.

“Cellular Circles Candy #1 – Nine Grid Collage” features nine unique pieces of my original Cellular Circles digitally hand painted artwork produced using computer software with a standard mouse.

This was my first published version of Cellular Circles works. The individual pieces are composed of an original digital Oil painting with a complimentary blend of colours across different hues and style variances.

With Cellular Circles I did have the idea of examining samples in a circular or rectangular Petri dish!

Here are two of my favourite versions beyond the Original of course:

“Cellular Circles Candy #1 – Haute Noir” [digital Pop Art, 24th August 2023] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, 100% digital artwork, 1920 x 1080 pixels.

‘Haute Noir’ seems biologically cellular, a living artwork. This artwork required minute variances within the contrasting parameters. At least 325,500 possible alternative combinations to define these pieces.

Each artwork is composed of multiple layers using advanced professional painting techniques within a digital environment.

Next is my own personal favourite, ‘SolarScape’, here:

“Cellular Circles Candy #1 – SolarScape” [digital Pop Art, 24th August 2023] by Matt The Unfathomable Artist, 100% digital artwork, 1920 x 1080 pixels.

These works must have been made in an art candy factory, since I almost cannot believe I made these. By publishing the individual pieces on my blog, you are able to see the intricate quality within each piece.

Hope you enjoy.
